Six years after joining Hartford HealthCare, St. Vincent’s Medical Center continues to redefine healthcare in Fairfield County — expanding access, elevating quality, and transforming the region into a destination for world-class care.

Since becoming part of Hartford HealthCare in 2019, St. Vincent’s has undergone a remarkable evolution — from a community hospital to the cornerstone of a comprehensive regional health ecosystem. The numbers tell the story of extraordinary growth and investment:

  • Primary care providers: up 102% (from 52 to 105)
  • Urgent care centers: up 140% (from 5 to 12)
  • Ambulatory sites: up 203% (from 37 to 115)
  • Total surgeries: up 204% (from 6,921 to 21,070)
  • Leapfrog Safety Rating: improved from D to A
  • CMS Star Rating: improved from One Star to Four Stars

These achievements have been fueled by $500 million in regional investment and the addition of 175,000 square feet of new access to advanced, affordable care.

Over the past six years, St. Vincent’s and Hartford HealthCare have brought more care closer to home, recruiting world-class physicians and surgeons and introducing specialized programs that rival the nation’s leading academic centers.

Major milestones include:

  • 2023: Launch of a life-saving 24/7 Stroke Center
  • 2024: Became the first Memorial Sloan Kettering Care Partner in the nation
  • 2024: Opened a new Family Birthing Center
  • 2025: Launch of Connecticut’s first Postpartum Rehab Program
  • 2025: Opening of new state-of-the-art surgical suites to advance complex care

Building the Future of Care in Fairfield County

As part of its continued commitment to the region, Hartford HealthCare has major plans, including:

  • Building new advanced operating rooms
  • Planning 17 new care sites across Fairfield County
  • Expanding lower-cost retail health options
  • Developing a new Cancer Center in Fairfield, featuring the nation’s first MSK Care Partner designation
  • Growing St. Vincent’s as a destination academic medical center in partnership with Quinnipiac University’s Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine
